Trent values building strong and authentic therapeutic relationships.  Throughout his 25-year journey in mental health providing counselling to individuals, couples, families and groups, Dr. Leighton has developed a wide range of specialties that will complement the clinical expertise of the Keys to Hope Counselling Services including marriage and family therapy, adolescent identity issues, PTSD, Bipolar management, and concurrent disorder treatment, to name a few.

Trent’s underlying philosophy is one of collaboration and teamwork where therapist and client work together to discover solutions that meet the client's goals and provide lasting insight. Dr. Leighton has also spent extensive time in an academic setting at the University of Lethbridge where he instructed every facet of the counselling process to undergraduate and graduate students. This experience has provided Trent with a passion for research and staying up to date and current with the latest therapeutic modalities and best practices.
